Kaloo Melamine Set Review

Kaloo Melamine Set~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
CAVEAT EMPTOR!
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Remember the POISON chinese pet food? the TOXIC chinese toys? how about those recent infant deaths due to POISON chinese baby formula?the chemical POISON in all these instances?
==> MELAMINE.
Melamine is a metabolite of cyromazine, a PESTICIDE. It is formed in the body of mammals who have ingested cyromazine. It was also reported that cyromazine is converted to melamine in plants.

Today most industrial manufacturers use ammonia and UREA (yes, both are found in URINE!) in the following reaction to produce melamine:

(for u science geeks)

6 (NH2)2CO ' C3H6N6 + 6 NH3 + 3 CO2It can be understood as two steps. First, UREA decomposes into cyanic acid in an endothermic reaction (NH2)2CO ' HCNO + NH3. Then cyanic acid polymerizes to form melamine and carbon dioxide: 6 HCNO ' C3H6N6 + 3 CO2. The second reaction is exothermic and the overall process is endothermic.

Ingestion of melamine may lead to reproductive damage, or bladder or kidney stones, which can lead to bladder cancer. On 30 March 2007, the US Food and Drug Administration reported finding white granular melamine in the pet food, in samples of white granular wheat gluten imported from a single source in China, Xuzhou Anying Biologic Technology as well as in crystalline form in the kidneys and in urine of affected animals. Further vegetable protein imported from China was later implicated. See Chinese protein export contamination.

The practice of adding "melamine scrap" to animal feed is reported to be widespread in China in order to give the appearance of increased protein content in animal feed.
Melamine production in China is reported to be in "serious surplus".

IN CONCLUSION: Because melamine resin is often used in food packaging and TABLEWARE, melamine at ppm level (1 part per million) in food and beverage has been reported due to MIGRATION from melamine-containing resins.[62] Small amounts of melamine have also been reported in foodstuff as a metabolite product of cyromazine, an insecticide used on animals and crops.[63] Romer Labs now offers a rapid Melamine test kit (AgraQuant Melamine ELISA test kit).

My ADVICE TO SELLER, drop melamine products! (and good conscience would dictate you campaign for public awareness of melamine toxicity, as well as commercial regulations to prevent it's further use...) You do score some points, however, for truth in advertising. ;-) Thanks for that. Perhaps, you should buy stock in Romer Labs, which makes the melamine test kits.
;-)

Peace to ALL.

Philips Avent 4oz Tempo Nurser Review

Philips Avent 4oz Tempo NurserI used Avent with my two older kids and was very excited when I heard they were coming out with a disposable system which worked with the bottles (the old system had color coded nipples that you had to match to the nurser or bottle and they weren't interchangeable.)

The biggest selling points of this new system is that if you are already using avent bottles or were planning on it you can add these nursers without keeping two sets of nipples.Everything that you love about the Avent bottles holds true with the nursers. You can pump directly into them and that's a big plus.

Here are the major drawbacks:

1. The nurser base is very wide. I have small hands and found the nursers to be very cumbersome and they didn't feel natural to hold during feedings. The nursers are a lot wider than the bottles, if you've used the old version of the nursers you'll also notice how much larger this new design is.My husband who has much larger hands than me said that he liked the wider bottle and it didn't seems as easy to drop and felt more natural to him.

2. You can't use other brands of liners.I pump & store my milk, and I've found that the bags are just TOO narrow to fit this bottle (Playtex & Lansinoh). You are either going to have to pump directly into this liner or you'll have to transfer milk (which for me defeated the whole point, since I use Lansinoh to store milk flat in the freezer!)

3. This bottle won't take the Playtex Drop Ins either, they are MUCH smaller than the Avent brand. If you can't find the Avent liners easily in your area you'll be stuck ordering online.

All in all, I think this is a good product if you are willing to deal with the issues I've stated.I used Avent with my older children and I SWEAR by their system however this product just wasn't for me.For all of the trouble I had with it, it just made more sense in my situation not to use them.

For now I will keep using my Avent bottles.I might try the Playtex disposable system however I have learned that their system doesn't have as many silicone nipple options as Avent (Playtex currently makes: Slow, Fast & Variable Flow vs. Avent: Slow, Medium, Medium-Fast, Fast & Variable)
